welcome home veterans shelter
I spent the first two years of my college career as a Multimedia Reporter for the Reynolds Journalism Institute at the Missouri School of Journalism. My favorite (and in my opinion, most impactful) story that I produced is a community issue story about veteran homelessness.

As a reporter, I took a national issue and localized it to the Columbia community. Essentially, I analyzed the dynamic of veteran homelessness in Columbia and broke down how it plays into national statistics and trends. I chose to hone in on the expansion of housing for female veterans in Columbia and the impact that those efforts have on a national level.

This story required several face-to-face interviews and a lot of research leading up to them. I was truly moved by the sense of connection, selflessness and generosity of those advocating for veterans, some of which include employees at the Veterans Administration Hospital and employees and volunteers at Welcome Home, a homeless shelter specifically for veterans.
